Our Story

In the fall of 2017 while hunting in the Montana backcountry we began a descent on a steep and rocky face using a pair of basic off the shelf aluminum trekking poles.  Placing the poles in between two boulders, the angle and pressure was more than they could bare and failure occurred, bending them to almost 90 degrees. It was then that we began our journey to build a lighter, stronger, and more durable pair of backcountry poles.

We often get asked how we came up with the name Sissy Stix. As you can imagine, it's quite the conversation piece and we get all kinds of comments.  Some love it, some hate it, and ironically we believe it pulls the curtain back on one of the biggest stereotypes in the backcountry industry. Retailers today promote their products through elite athletes and social media influencers, delivering their message with the intent to make their followers feel inferior if they don’t buy their products. The “Macho” stereotype is the focus and all of our egos have benefited from this move.

The Reality? Even the elite athletes use and benefit from products that make their experience in the backcountry better.

We’re leveling the playing field and taking on the “Macho” stereotype by making lighter, stronger, more durable backcountry products available to everyone that's "Macho" enough to use them.  Sissy Stix are just the beginning of this journey.
